Ice is a fictional Valyrian steel greatsword from Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire. It served as the ancestral weapon of House Stark for several centuries and was traditionally carried by the Lord of Winterfell.
Eddard “Ned” Stark used Ice mainly for ceremonial executions, believing that the person who passed the sentence should personally carry it out. After Ned was arrested and executed in King’s Landing, the Lannisters seized the sword.
Tywin Lannister ordered Ice to be melted down and reforged into two smaller Valyrian steel swords. One was named Oathkeeper and given to Jaime Lannister, who later passed it to Brienne of Tarth. The second was named Widow’s Wail and presented to King Joffrey as a wedding gift.
