Longclaw Sword is a fictional Valyrian steel bastard sword from Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire. It belonged to House Mormont of Bear Island for nearly 500 years.
Lord Commander Jeor Mormont originally gave the sword to his son, Jorah. However, when Jorah fled Westeros in disgrace, he left Longclaw behind, and the sword was returned to Jeor at the Wall.
After Jon Snow and his direwolf, Ghost, saved Jeor from a wight, Jeor rewarded Jon with Longclaw. Its original bear-shaped pommel had been damaged in the fire, so it was replaced with a white wolf-head pommel featuring red garnet eyes, representing Jon’s connection to House Stark.
Jon kept the original name, explaining that wolves have claws just as bears do. Longclaw later became one of Jon Snow’s most iconic weapons.
