Widows Wail Sword is a fictional Valyrian steel sword from Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire. It was created when Tywin Lannister ordered House Stark’s ancestral greatsword, Ice, to be melted down and reforged into two smaller swords.
King Joffrey Baratheon received the blade as a wedding gift and personally named it Widow’s Wail shortly before his death. The sword then passed to his younger brother, King Tommen, although Tommen was too young and inexperienced to wield it in battle.
In the television series, Jaime Lannister later carried Widow’s Wail during his battles in the North. The sword features a golden lion-themed guard, a red leather grip, and a dark Valyrian steel blade with subtle reddish patterns representing House Lannister.
