Needle Swords is a fictional sword from Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire. Jon Snow asked Mikken, Winterfell’s blacksmith, to forge the lightweight blade specifically for Arya Stark before he left for the Night’s Watch.
Jon named it “Needle” as a playful reference to Arya’s dislike of traditional needlework. Unlike the heavy swords carried by knights, Needle’s thin and balanced design allowed Arya to fight with speed and precision.
Arya later trained with Syrio Forel, who taught her the Braavosi fencing style known as the Water Dance. Needle remained deeply important to Arya, representing her Stark identity, her family, and her journey from a young noble girl to a skilled fighter.
